Fare Share

Why did we choose FareShare to support for our Autumn stationery box?  Autumn is a time of harvest and makes us think of Harvest Festivals we attended as children.  There’s something amazing about the generosity of children and the donations they make across the country for local food banks at this time of the year.

Did you know approximately 8.4 million people in the UK are struggling to afford to eat – this is equivalent to the entire population of London – and still, 3.6 million tonnes of food goes to waste by the food industry every single year, 2 million tonnes of which is still edible. FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to more than 10,500 frontline charities and community groups.

The food they redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week they provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.

2020/2021 has been FareShare’s biggest year yet. They helped 10,542 charities and community groups and 1,108,064 people were provided food supplied by FareShare. The food they redistributed contributed towards 131.9 million meals and saved the charity sector £18.5 million.

We’re so proud to be able to support such an amazing organisation by donating 25% of sales from each ‘Autumn’ subscription box.
