Tell us about yourself and a fun fact:

Hello! I’m Sarah Rose, illustrator, linoprinter and lover of cats and coffee. I create fun prints with a kawaii feel to them and themes of fairytale, nature, everyday life and lots of cats. I started linoprinting last year after taking a class and quickly fell in love with the process. My day job is designing stationery and giftware mainly for large licenses so it’s fun to explore my own ideas and creativity with my little business Fox and Fauna. A fun fact about me… this is tough and I’m not sure it’s fun so how about a weird fact instead? I used to have a phobia of baked beans. I still don’t like them but I can actually sit in a room while someone eats them which is a huge improvement!

What made you get into the world of artwork and creativity?

Since I was little I have always been creative, wanting to paint, draw and create so through school and university I followed this path gaining a degree in graphic design in 2005 and there was never any other option of what i wanted to do with my life. I start feeling a bit down and lost when I’m not creating so it’s a hugely important part of my life.

Where do you get your inspiration from when creating new artwork?

I am hugely inspired by the whole kawaii culture and characters like Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma and Pikachu – i just love their clean, bold, super cute aesthetic and use of strong pops of colour. I am also inspired just by my everyday life – my love of coffee, cats and nature is evident throughout all my work.

What has been your favourite project to work on?

I think my first proper linocut ‘Sardines’ was my favourite. It was so satisfying to carve something out of lino and have it print just as I imagined it would look and it’s the bestseller in my store which is amazing.

My fave 3… wow that is hard there are SO many small businesses I absolutely adore. I try to shop small and support independent as much as I can, so the list could be endless but here ae a few of my faves:Dottir Studio, Rosa Pietsch and Kitty Kendra.
